Delving into musical theatre!

September 19, 2019

Over the summer season we have been busy touring with our Arts Council England funded theatre piece called The Great Big Jungle Boogie; an interactive musical theatre piece aimed at young children and their families. Little ones have been able to join Bella Beat and Tam Tam The Jungle Rhythm, in preparing for the best jungle boogie that ever has been! (It;s a big party really, with a happy, twisting jungle tale!)

It's been a wonderful experience to drum with lots of children and their families and to see them engage in such an energetic and excited way with our jungle storyline and music making. We were proud to take the Boogie to WOMAD Festival, Splendour Festival, Shambala Festival, The Green Festival in our own city of Nottingham, and also to smaller community celebration events. The feedback from our audiences has been wonderful, and we can't wait to upgrade our scenery and jungle animals puppets for another touring adventure next festival season. Look out for cuddly looking lions and monkeys, with moving parts that the audience can interact with! It really will be awesome!

Our scenery this year was carefully designed and created by Houghton and Wyatt and Rocket Scenery in Nottingham. The storyline was written by Jude, our Artistic Director.

Prior to the summer season of touring we visited many special education schools in the East Midlands, as we wanted to share our bright and textured scenery with children in these settings too. Here's what Fountaindale School in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire had to say about our musical theatre;

"We would like to express how wonderful your show was. All of the children were totally engaged and you adapted beautifully to all of their diverse needs and abilities. We would definitely recommend this to other special schools and Early Years Practitioners." Teacher, Fountaindale School.

We've built up very positive relationships with special education schools in our region and it's been a pleasure to have shared The Great Big Jungle Boogie with them.

The piece is currently on offer to schools and organisations to hire for performances in their own settings. Many schools have invited us and the Boogie in to help children settle into school routines and environments. Making music together and storytelling can have a calming effect.

In some schools all children in Foundation Stage and those in Key Stage 1 have descended into their school halls for an exciting musical celebration with the jungle!

Please do get in touch if you'd like us to bring The Great Big Jungle Boogie to your school or event.
