Project Donkiloo Laa Song Swap & Share - An international project between the UK and The Gambia

In November 2022, we were able to begin a project very close to our hearts. Project Donkiloo Laa Song Swap & Share will see an international collective of artists working alongside young children in the UK and The Gambia to identify and celebrate their favourite childhood songs. This project will be a real celebration of deeply embedded cultural songs, spanning generations.

Musicians from the UK and The Gambia will compose new and original music in several languages, including Mandinka, Wolof, Jola, Fula and English. Expect to hear some firm favourites from the UK and The Gambia, accompanied by traditional instruments from West Africa, such as kora, djembe, balafon, ngoni and bolon.

We can’t wait to share updates on how Project Donkiloo Laa is progressing over the next six months.
